jesse draxler
Jesse Draxler is an artist working in collage, as well as someone that participates in artist collectives. Perhaps most importantly of all, he hails from the Midwest (Minnesota), like myself.
I kid about that last part. But, in all seriousness, I really enjoy Jesse’s work. It is a nice combination of cut paper, drawing, and photography. I am especially a fan of his use of newspaper and typography — it’s nice to see type and images working together as collage elements rather than just words on newsprint. We can then appropriate it as a decorative element.
There are many interesting pieces to Jesse’s work; it is a bit morbid (you’ve got the use of bight green paint as blood dripping from a woman’s mouth), and a mixture of vintage and modern (old photographs with modern shape and color).
Jesse is also involved in a couple of artist collectives, including being a co-founder of the WAFA Global Artist Collective. WAFA is committed to the support of emerging artists, and has a lot of wonderful work from their members as well. Definitly worth your time in checking out.
