It’s been a long week. Luckily, my calendar tells me it’s Friday, and so that automatically sets the day in the right direction. You know what else is making my morning a little brighter? The work of Patrick Kyle.
Patrick creates images that are surreal and set in motion by his sense of character development. He introduces us to disgustingly strong weight-lifters, giants, sourcers, and general micheviousness. He’s reimagined our sterotypes of these characters. They are a bit more visceral and subversive, more concerned with breaking conventions. I can’t help but be reminded of the cartoon Ren and Stimpy, especially with some of the more graphic imagery.
I’ve written about Ginette Lapalme previously, and she and Patrick work closely together in the same collective — Wowee Zonk. You can buy their zine, Pobody’s Nurfect, a collection of the work that the members have produced together.
