Angela Zammarelli has been doing sketches. Not paper sketches, but ones of the 3D variety. They are for a new body of work titled “All the Trappings”. I’m really excited to see where this series is headed.

Angela has assembled shadow boxes that is a combination of 3D materials and painting and collage directly on the boxes. It’s an interesting notion what these boxes mean exactly. Some are reminiscent of memorials, or even a coffin, while others are a habitat of creatures and other growth, nearly the opposite of a final resting place.

The orientation of the boxes, with them facing out towards us on the wall is interesting choice, and skews their meaning to me all the bit more.
