Shapes are always on my brain. I love look­ing at dif­fer­ent objects, pho­tographs, and, well… shapes to get more ideas for my work. It’s one rea­son why I am enjoy­ing Mara Caffarone’s recent paint­ings, which empha­size shape as well as color.

Rela­tion­ships seem to be impor­tant in Mara’s work. The often dense col­ors are affected by what they are paired with, which can make them look brighter or more dull. Sim­i­larly, a shape has a dif­fer­ent feel paired with a com­ple­ment­ing or oppos­ing form.
