Nature-Inspired Paintings Illustrate the “Whimsical Creepiness” of Folklore

Magical Illustrations by Lisa Vanin

Illustrator Lisa Vanin grew up in a small town in Canada. There, she drew and sculpted animals and forest scenes; I’ve spoken before on the importance of acknowledging the things that you liked to do when you were young. Often, these interests circle back around and hold great meaning in your adult life. They did for Lisa!

Still based in Canada, Lisa continues to explore her love of nature today, in a creative career that includes commissioned work and gallery shows. “I am mostly inspired by nature and the time I spend outdoors,” she tells Ballpitmag. “I try to use these experiences as much as I can in my work to give my simplified paintings substance, and feelings of realness and depth. I am also inspired by the whimsical creepiness of folklore, fairy tales, fables, and myths. These stories have always held a special place in my heart.”

Lisa sells originals and prints of her magical illustrations via her Etsy shop. And if you’re a fan of clay sculptures, she also sells those too!

Illustrator Lisa Vanin has a passion for nature that she translates into magical illustrations.
