15 Favorites From Inktober, October’s Most Famous Art Challenge

October is known for many things, but if you’re in the illustration world, it’s synonymous for Inktober. If you’re new to the annual tradition, the premise is simple: during each day of the month, you ink something! There are 31 daily prompts, but you are welcome to forge your own creative path.

Illustrator Jake Parker created the art challenge in 2009 as a way to promote a positive daily habit for himself. Since then, its popularity has spread worldwide. Today is the last day of Inktober, so if you missed it this year, make a plan to do it next year. While it’s best done once a day, there are other options. “You can do it daily, or go the half-marathon route and post every other day, or just do the 5K and post once a week,” Jake writes, “Whatever you decide, just be consistent with it.”

Here’s a very small selection of Inktober posts that I enjoyed this month. See more from previous years here.

Illustrators ring in October with Inktober, a daily art project that challenges you to draw every day of the month.
