Time Travel Tuesday: Richard Scarry books

Via Vin­tage Kids’ Book my Kid Loves

Of the many hap­py mem­o­ries from my child­hood, read­ing books by Richard Scar­ry was one of them. The char­ac­ter design, busy scenes, East­er eggs, and even the titles of his sto­ries have stuck with me into adulthood.

Richard Scar­ry was a pro­lif­ic chil­dren’s book author, illus­trat­ing from the 1950’s to the 1990’s. His works includ­ed anthro­po­mor­phic ani­mals, and most often depict­ed them doing things that humans would do .

My favorite part was when we’d read Cars and Trucks and Things that Go and my broth­er and I would race to find the Gold­bug that was hid­den on each page. Lat­er, when look­ing and cre­at­ing my own illus­tra­tions, I was real­ly drawn to images that have this East­er Egg aspect to them.
